DTL Oil Characteristics

The principal interest of Direct Thermochemical Liquefaction processes is the liquid product.
However, the composition and characteristics of the liquids can be very different depending on the processes and direct comparison of properties is of limited value. The two main liquids considered in Task34 are Fast Pyrolysis Bio-Oil (FPBO) and Hydrothermal Liquefaction (HTL) Biocrude.

Fast Pyrolysis Bio-Oil (FPBO)

Bio-oil, or pyrolysis oil, is a liquid product produced by fast pyrolysis: rapid heating and rapid quenching of organic material, here biomass, in a low oxygen atmosphere.
